三、形制與外觀描述 (Physical Description)

本件 民國 41 年 (1952) 生產之藏品，在外觀上呈現了特殊的「凍結時光」特性。經與 民國 13 年 (1924) 生產之早期同型機（序號 Y2294556）詳細比對，本機在主體視覺上幾乎完全繼承了戰前的設計語彙，僅在少數細節上做出了時代區隔：

1. 機身塗裝與貼花（Finish & Decals）

傳承特徵： 機身採用標準黑色日本漆（Japanning）。貼花樣式確認為 "Filigree"（金絲細工），由菱形排列的金色幾何渦卷構成。
比對結論： 對照 民國 13 年 (1924) 戰前機型，兩者的貼花圖騰佈局、線條風格與位置幾乎完全一致。這證明了 "Filigree" 樣式是 Model 99K 跨越二戰前後最主要的視覺識別，並未隨時間發生顯著改變，亦無早期彩繪或獅身人面像特徵。

2. 機頭面板（Faceplate）—— 年代判定特徵

民國 13 年 (1924) / 民國 26 年 (1937) 戰前版： 採用「藤蔓浮雕」（Scroll / Vine）面板，呈現維多利亞風格的複雜雕花。
民國 41 年 (1952) 本館藏： 改用 「直條紋鍍鉻」（Striated） 面板。這是 民國 40 年代 (1950s) 勝家為了賦予老機型現代感（Modern Look）所做的唯一顯著更動，也是分辨戰前與戰後版本的首要依據。

傳承： 兩者皆採用輻條式手輪（Spoked Handwheel）與可折疊曲柄。
差異： 民國 13 年 (1924) 戰前版本的手搖柄握把為原木色（Natural Wood）；而本件 民國 41 年 (1952) 藏品的握把則呈現黑色（Black）。此細節反映了戰後配件生產標準的細微變化。

4. 外箱（Case）

配有原廠拱形木外箱（Bentwood Case），由拋光膠合板製成，與戰前版本規格一致，顯示勝家在戰後初期仍維持高品質的木工配件標準，尚未轉用後期的塑膠材質。

To Alter the Length of Stitch (See Fig. 11)

To lengthen the stitch, turn the thumb screw over to the right; to shorten the stitch, turn the thumb screw over to the left.

To Change the Pressure on Material

For ordinary family sewing it is seldom necessary to change the pressure on the material. If sewing fine silk or flimsy material, lighten the pressure by giving the thumb screw (1, Fig. 8) two or three turns upwards. To increase the pressure, give the thumb screw a few turns downwards.

To Turn a Corner

Stop the machine when the needle is rising but still in the material. Raise the presser foot and turn the work, using the needle as a pivot. Then lower the presser foot.

To Sew Flannel or Bias Seams

Use a short stitch and as light a tension as possible, so that the stitching will be loose enough to stretch with the goods.

To Oil the Machine

To ensure easy running the machine requires to be oiled so that all moving parts in contact are covered with a film of oil. These should never be allowed to become dry.

If used constantly, the machine should be oiled daily, while with moderate use, an occasional oiling is sufficient. A drop of oil applied at the points indicated by arrows in Figs. 12 and 13, is sufficient. To oil the needle bar mechanism, remove the face plate (3, Fig. 8) by taking out the thumb screw (17, Fig. 8) and loosening the small screw (2, Fig.8). It is most important that oil be applied to point "A" Fig. 12 when the take-up lever (9, Fig. 8) is at its lowest. There are also two holes in the hand attachment to which oil should be applied occasionally. When oiling, insert the oil can spout well into the oil holes. Apply a drop of oil to the small piece of felt lubricating the oscillating hook and to the rollers at the right of the hook shaft.

縫紉法蘭絨或斜紋接縫 (Bias Seams)

為機器上油

為了確保運轉順暢，機器需要上油，使所有接觸的活動零件表面都覆蓋一層油膜。切勿讓這些零件變得乾燥。

如果經常使用，應每日為機器上油；若是適度使用，偶爾上油即可。在圖 12 和圖 13 箭頭指示的點上滴一滴油就足夠了。

若要為針桿機構上油，請取下拇指螺絲（圖 8 之 17）並鬆開小螺絲（圖 8 之 2），以拆下面板（圖 8 之 3）。

最重要的一點是：當挑線桿（圖 8 之 9）處於最低位置時，務必將油加在圖 12 的「A」點。

手搖裝置上也有兩個孔，應偶爾上油。上油時，請將油壺嘴深深插入油孔中。另外，請在潤滑擺梭（oscillating hook）的小毛氈片上，以及梭軸右側的滾輪上滴一滴油。

The Hand Attachment

WHEN the cover is removed from the machine, the hand attachment will be found to be out of working position, as shown in Fig. 1. To operate the machine, pull the small spring stud (2, Fig. 1) and turn the handle back until the lever (1, Fig. 1) enters the socket (3, Fig. 1); also see that the hinged finger (4, Fig. 2) is turned back between the spokes of the wheel. The machine will then be ready for working, as shown in Fig. 2.

Before replacing the cover, the lever should be disengaged, and the handle placed in the position shown in Fig. 1.

Balance Wheel Stop Motion

This device allows the balance wheel to run free, so that bobbins may be wound without operating the mechanism. To loosen the wheel, hold it with the left hand, and with the right hand turn the stop motion screw over towards you, as shown in Fig. 3.

To Operate the Hand Machine

Tighten the balance wheel and place a piece of material under the presser foot (8, Fig. 8). Then lower the latter by means of the lifter (4, Fig. 8). Now turn the handle over from you to work the machine, without its being threaded, until you are accustomed to guiding the material with the left hand.

The advantages of an electric machine, are: Higher speed, and, both hands being free, a greater variety of work. A Singer Motor may be applied to your machine at any time. (See page 2 of this book).

NOTE.—Before applying any of these attachments raise the needle and remove the presser foot. After substituting the attachment turn the balance wheel slowly over towards you to make sure that the needle passes through the centre of the needle hole.

To obtain the best results from the attachments, the machine should be fitted for electric drive. (See page 2 of this book).

The Binder—Binding

Pass the binding through the scroll of the binder and draw it under the needle. Place the edge of the material to be bound between the scroll of the binder and under the needle, lower the presser-bar lifter and sew as usual.

Bias binding should be cut 15/16 of an inch wide.

To Bind with Dress Braid.—Proceed as when using bias binding; but as dress braid and binding purchased already folded are narrower than bias binding they should be inserted in the outer slot of the binder. The edges of dress braid are not turned under as in the case of bias binding.

To Make French Folds.—Proceed as directed for binding, but pass the cloth beneath the binder-foot, so that the fold is stitched on to the face of the material instead of on the edge.

滾邊器（包邊器）——滾邊操作

將滾邊條穿過滾邊器的捲軸（scroll），並將其拉到車針下方。將要進行滾邊的布料邊緣放置在滾邊器的捲軸中間，並置於車針下方，放下壓腳抬桿，然後照常縫紉。

使用裝飾帶（Dress Braid）進行滾邊——操作方式與使用斜紋滾邊條相同；但由於現成的折疊裝飾帶和滾邊帶通常比自製的斜紋條窄，因此應將它們插入滾邊器的外側插槽中。裝飾帶的邊緣不會像斜紋滾邊條那樣被捲折進去。
