JUNK.

This name is applied to various characteristic sailing vessels found in Chinese and neighbouring waters. A somewhat clumsy appearance is given on account of the high forecastle and stern and roughly made sails. Actu- ally, it is a very seaworthy craft. The Junk is also used by the Japanese. The photograph shews Ningpo and a Shanghai trader the Hungpu on River, Shanghai.
